Coventry Crusaders
September 28th 2003, 10:32pm
Yesterday I went out with some friends to watch Coventry Crusaders playing Westminster Warriors at the Coventry Sports Centre. (That's basketball, by the way). It was a really close game, with only two points in it at half time, and level at full time, forcing extra time. Eight seconds from the end of the game the score was level when the opposition (Westminster Warriors) were awarded two free shots and scored both of them. The Crusaders were unable to score again, but despite the fact that they lost, I really enjoyed watching the game, and I think I'll go down there again to watch them again.
Afterwards we went to a pub to celebrate Mark's twenty seventh birthday, where he quite enjoyed wearing a tiara. Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera with me.

Chapelfields
September 23rd 2003, 4:49pm
Today I went for a walk around the neigbouring streets. My company is designing a website for an estate agents and we needed some photos of houses to go on the front page, so I though I'd go and see what I could find round here.
There's not a huge choice of houses to photograph in this area - nearly all the houses are terraces of one sort or another. I was quite impressed by how nice this area is though. There are quite a few quite large houses round here (large for terraces anyway), and most roads were pretty nice and tidy, with quite a few nice gardens around as well. It was very quiet everywhere as well, as most people don't get to go for a walk as part of their work and were either stuck in offices or schools.
The weather is starting to get a bit colder at last, after one of the best summers I've known for a long time. And for me it's been a very long summer, as I was in Kenya and missed the Autumn, Winter and Spring. Of course, I did have to live through the two rainy seasons, but at least they were still warm. I'm not complaining though - it's nice to have different weather for a change. A year long summer can get a bit boring eventually.

Guitar

I have my guitar. It's the nicest acoustic guitar I've had. Regent Guitars also give you a free set of strings after six and twelve months and another setup at twelve months. You also get a ten percent discount on further purchases, so I got myself a hard case and a few sets of strings as well.
The setup of the guitar is perfect - the strings are just the right height and the frets are smooth with no sharp edges. The finish on the guitar isn't quite perfect - there seem to be little specks where there's no polish, but it's a satin finish rather than an inch thick gloss job, so it's only noticeable if you look really closely. The grain of the wood is quite noticeable on the neck as again it's not covered in half a ton of laquer, so it feels really nice to play.

were you paid to go on about that shop, or are you just really pleased about it?

Calculator

I just discovered Google's calculator today. It's very clever - type something like (4+5)*2 and press search and it'll give you the answer. You can also try stuff like 30 litres in uk gallons or 15 kg in slugs.
On an unrelated note, I just gone bought me a new geetar. I don't have it yet though, because the shop is giving it a proper setup. Despite playing a Taylor in the shop I managed to tear myself away from it and buy a very nice Takamine for a third of the price.
I don't often like to advertise on here, but if you're in the market for a new guitar you could do worse than going to Regent Guitars in Leamington. They're very helpful, and you always get a professional set up on any guitars you buy there.

Coventry, Unrelated point I know, but is that music school you spoke of in the WEC camp the AMM. If so I met some kids from there in France.

That's the one.
They sent a group to france in the summer on a mission I just happened to be helping with. The mission was fun. Spent a week playing shakers, tamborines, cowbells, congas, woodblocks, cabassas and once a kit. Also I found out that the charismatic is the same in any language.
Similar unrelated point, you going to the WEC reunion?
If so be sure to bring an elecrtic guitar 'cause the kit's going.
