My blog - December 2003

It's Christmas!

December 26th 2003, 12:06am

At least, it was until a few minutes ago.

Today I got eighteen new DVDs to add to my collection, all of which have been added to my list on the music page, so if you're coming round to visit and want to watch a DVD you now have plenty of choice.

Test The Nation

December 23rd 2003, 12:31am

Test The Nation was on TV tonight. I didn't watch it until the very end, when I discovered there was an online version on the BBC website. I took the test myself and ended up with a score of 38 out of 70, which would be pretty poor until you realise that the questions were generally about things that happened in the UK over the last year, and I was only here for half the year. If they'd had questions on Kenya for the first half of the year I might have fared better. Tha's my excuse anyway.

I then did the IQ test, which I got 132 on, which was a bit disappointing because I hit the wrong button on at least two or three questions. It'd be interesting to see if I'd get a higher score in the day when I'm not falling asleep. Of course, I can't retake the test because I know the answers now.

The third and most scientific test available on the site was the Relationships Test. I'm pleased to announce that I scored 183 out of 200 on that test and come into the category of Ace of Hearts.

Nexus Christmas Concert

December 12th 2003, 10:30am

Last night I went to the first performance of this year's Nexus Christmas Concert. Put on by the Nexus Academy of Music Ministry, it was the students' first chance to show what they've been learning over the last few months, and after seeing this performance I can't wait to see what they'll be like by the end of year concert in the summer.

The highlights of the concert have to be Little Drummer Boy, the staff performance at the end of the first half and Gloria (which I saw them do in town so I knew it was good). And another one, but I forgot to note what it was called.

Contact Lens Care

December 6th 2003, 11:01am

Shown to the right is the old style of contact lens container that I have been using, as seen through my eyes before I've put my contacts in. The lens for my right eye is in the grey end of the tube, the left lens is in the blue end.

Now this is the new style of contact lens container. The lens for my left eye is in the half labelled 'L', and the right lens is in the half labelled 'R'.

There are also other design flaws in the new design which make it pretty much unuseable. Like if I remove both the lids from the new design, there's no labelling inside the container, so I no longer know which lens is which. In the old design the contacts are held in a clip in the lid, so it's not possible to mix up the lenses. And the clip meant that it was easy to remove the lens from the container - I have to fish around in a container full of contact solutions to get the lenses out of the new design.

Surely Bausch & Lomb, a company who make eye care products, should have the sense to make a better design than that.

Shopping For Music

December 5th 2003, 5:15pm

Just before midday Matt asked me to drive him to the station, so I did. I then went to Boots, booked an eye test, and then went into town to see if there was any music I wanted to get. I didn't buy any music, but I did discover that Nexus were doing a concert by the Lady Godiva statue, so I watched them for an hour or so before going to my eye test, at which I discovered that my eyes haven't got any worse over the last year and a half, which is nice. My glasses have got worse though - I dropped and smashed them last year, so I've ordered a new pair for £400. Ouch.
