The Times, They Are A-Changing

April 23rd 2004, 10:45pm

Actually, the times, they a-changed a while ago now. Its the weather that's a-changing at the moment.

This evening, after going to Ristorante Etna for Jon-Man's leaving meal (where I had the best steak I've had for ages), we went down to The Glasshouse and sat round a table outside and had a few drinks, while not feeling too cold. It's the first day this year when it's really been warm enough to do that. It kind of reminded me of being in Kenya and going to Gipsy, although when I was there it reminded me of Coventry. (See this entry.)

This afternoon I went to the guitar shop where I'd bought my acoustic guitar and tried to claim my free set of strings which they'd promised I could have after six and twelve months of owning the guitar. But when I got there they told me the type of strings I use are too expensive so I couldn't have them for free, even though it's the kind of strings I got with the guitar originally. So I had a good argument with them for a few minutes but eventually settled with getting £7.50 off, which I suppose is okay.

Tomorrow I think I'll go for a cycle, unless the weather a-changes again.

Things I Want To Do

April 15th 2004, 7:04pm

When I shared a house with Dave and Mark they kept trying to persuade me to go climbing, but I never did. But a few weeks ago I went for the first time and really enjoyed it, so now I have a harness and shoes and stuff like that and I've been once more and plan to go regularly.

But there are lots of other things I'd like to do. Sailing is something I've always enjoyed, and I went along to Draycote water a couple of years ago (that's where I drew the picture) but decided it was too expensive, but this year I think I'll do it anyway. I also want to get into doing archery, and I might try out some shooting as well (I was in the gun club at Warwick Uni for one year, but never actually went along to anything!).

The other thing I've wanted to do for ages is fly a helicopter. When the RAF came to school I asked them about it but I wouldn't have been able to fly for them because of my short sightedness. But one day I want to be able to fly one privately.

Then there's about a million other things I want to do, like travelling round the world (Estonia is high on the list, followed by the rest of Europe - as I've never been there yet), getting in a band, learning to do oil paintings properly, ride a horse, sail round the UK, invent something and live off the royalties, write a novel, win the booker prize, become prime minister... Oh, perhaps I'm getting a bit carried away...

Keep On Driving...

April 13th 2004, 8:46am

In the last week I drove approximately one and a half thousand miles. On Tuesday I drove to York where I met up with Nomi and Bonny and looked around the town and bought a sword. We stayed the night at a hostel (with a glowy light just after the steepy hill) near Harrogate, and then drove around the dales a bit on Wednesday before heading down to Stratford, where we took more photos and didn't get to see any Shakespeare plays, but did get a good meal in an old pub. Then we came back to Coventry and went to Shay's acoustic night in the Greyfriars pub, and then stayed at my place for the night. On Thursday we went into town and looked round the Cathedrals and the Motor Museum and got confused by the millennium clock as it doesn't make any sense as far as I can tell. Then we got Bonny onto her coach down to London and Nomi and I drove up to Scotland, with a short break in Manchester while the RAC fixed a leak in a coolant hose. I spent Friday doing very little and feeling extremely knackered, went cycling on Saturday and did nothing again on Sunday. Then I drove back to Coventry yesterday, went to the Chestnut Tree pub quiz and won a T-shirt and a bottle of wine. Well, I think I contributed at least two correct answers. Far too tired after all that driving to think clearly. Oh, and no photos yet because my digital camera is still with Jessops being fixed. Had to use my film SLR camera instead, and haven't had the pictures developed yet. (I hope to get a digital SLR before too long.)
