Southam
April 29th 2006, 11:13am
Yesterady I took my car to a garage in Southam to try and get the engine problem fixed. They changed the lambda sensor, but it still doesn't accelerate properly at low revs. When I drive in the country I get plenty of power and it's really fun to drive, but then when I get back into town it really annoys me. Sometimes I start pulling away and there's no power, and even if the revs get right up I still get no speed. But if I then stop, get the revs high while the clutch is in and then pull away, the engine works fine. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem is?
Anyway, while they were working on the car I went for a walk round Southam and took some photos. Here's one of the church. I've decided to try a photo with a border and without rounded corners for a change, because I think the photos look better like this. For now anyway!

Stretton Locks in Stereo
April 17th 2006, 3:26pm
It's a beautiful sunny Easter Monday, so I went out for a drive with my camera again. This time I ended up by Stretton Locks, so I stopped to take some more photos. In stereo, of course. And here are two of them. I took a whole load more, but these two look best in 3D.
So far, some of my friends have been able to see these in 3D, but most can't do the crossed-eyes thing properly!

Hey - that's cool. Not sure it's too good for your eyes though!

Stoneleigh in Stereo
April 15th 2006, 2:06pm
When I was at my parents' the other day I saw this stereo viewer, which had that old photo of the Empire State builders having lunch on a girder above the city, but in 3D in it, and I thought "I wonder if I could take some stereo pictures and get them to work in it?". So I took it home and took a couple of photos of the back garden from, one with the camera in front of my left eye, and one with it in front of my right eye. I then printed them out and put them in the viewer, and hey presto! - I had a 3D picture of my garden.
So today I thought I'd go out and get some more interesting photos, and went for a drive. I ended up down the road in Stoneleigh and took these photos, along with a few others, which look quite nice in 3D. If your screen is the right resolution you can see this picture in stereo. There are several ways to do it, but basically you just need to have your left eye look at the left picture, and your right eye look at the right one. You can try putting your face quite close to the screen and then moving back from it and try to focus on the separate pictures, or just do what I do, and go slightly cross eyed so the pictures overlap, and then refocus so you see both pictures at once.
If you can do those magic eye things it'll be quite easy. Although the resolution of your screen might make the gap between the pictures too wide.
I've worked out what makes a good 3D picture now though, so I might go out again sometime this weekend and see if I can get some even better stereo photos.

A Constructive Day
April 7th 2006, 12:10pm
Yesterday, after have a website meeting over in Leicester, I went back to my parents. I did some computer work while I was there (thanks to the wireless router I installed there a while ago, which my dad doesn't use), and then my sister and her two children arrived and the day got even more constructive, as you can see from the photo. I was quite impressed with myself, being able to make a fully functional steering system when I haven't played with technical lego for years. I didn't attempt a differential gear at the back though.

The Horror Of The 80s
April 2nd 2006, 9:07am
Last night I went to John's thirtieth birthday party, which had an eighties theme. It was quite horrendous! That is, the eighties clothes people were wearing. The party was good!
My housemates went as Marty McFly and Doc Emmett, as you can see, and my ex-housemate on the left is one of Bros. You can also see some big-haired rocker's big-hair just behind them. Myself, I didn't try all that hard and just wore black shoes, white socks, turned up jeans, a white t-shirt and a suit jacket. None of them fashion faux-pas in themselves (except the turned-upness of the jeans), but together they're the essence of the eighties. Although I could have done with a single earring, some make-up, a head band and a wig to improve it.

James:
Did you get this problem fixed? It sounds like a slipping clutch to me.

Actually, the new llambda sensor has nearly fixed the problem. It's certainly made the car run smoother and accelerate better. But I sometimes still get a loss of power. I'm pretty sure it's not a slipping clutch - my last car had a worn out clutch and it felt very different.
