52 New Foods 1

As a new year’s resolution, I decided that I would cook fifty-two things this year that I haven’t cooked before. It was going to be a weekly thing, but I think I’m more likely to keep it up if I can’t fail until the end of the year – there’s (nearly) always time to catch up. And I’m already behind, not having cooked anything new yet.

I hope to cook some interesting new dishes during this year, and also learn some new techniques – especially around baking. And since I have a new blow torch, I guess crème brûlée should be on the list. Hmm, maybe I should make a list of things I want to make…

  • crème brûlée
  • Welsh rarebit
  • something with crème patissière
  • sweet chili sauce
  • injera, and other Ethiopian food
  • soufflé
  • hand raised pork pie
  • lemon meringue pie
  • baked alaska
  • something with spun sugar
  • baked cheesecake
  • smoked foods
  • battenburg cake
  • poutine (with homemade cheese curds)
  • a massaman curry

That’s a start, at least.

Sounds like fun! I look forward to seeing what you come up with and whether you last the 52 weeks!
